Charizard

Charizard is a flying/fire type that was introduced in Generation 1. It evolves from Charmander and then Charmeleon. In the anime, Charizard plays a pretty big role in the series. Ash Ketchum evolves it all the way from a Charmander and it has appeared in many episodes. It isn’t technically a dragon based on its original typing but we all know that it is a dragon.

Dragonite is a dragon and flying type that was introduced in Generation 1. It evolves from Dratini and then Dragonair. In the anime, Ash Ketchum has one after evolving it from a Dragonair. Other well-known trainers that also have one include Lance, Drake, and Iris.

Goodra

Goodra is a dragon and fairy type that was introduced in Generation 6. It evolves from Goomy and then Sliggoo. In the anime, Ash acquires one after evolving it up from a Goomy.

Haxorus

Haxorus is a pure dragon type that was introduced in Generation 5. It evolves from Axew and then Fraxure. In the anime, it is one of the main Pokemon of Drayden, who is the  is the leader of Opelucid City’s Gym.

Garchomp

Garchomp is a dragon and ground type that was introduced in Generation 4. It evolves from Gible and then Gabite. In the anime, Ash has a Gible but it hasn’t evolved into a Garchomp. It is also the main Pokemon that is used by Cynthia, who is the Champion of the Sinnoh region.

Flygon

Garchomp is a dragon/ground type that was introduced in Generation 3. It evolves from Trapinch and then Vibrava. It made its first appearance in the anime during the movie, Jirachi: Wish Maker.

Salamence

Salamence is a dragon/flying type that that was introduced in Generation 3. It evolves from Bagon and then Shelgon. In the anime, Salamance is the main Pokemon of J, who is a recurring character.

Hydreigon

Hydreigon is a dragon and dark type that was introduced in Generation 5. It evolves from Deino and then Zweilous. In the anime, Hydreigon played a major role in the 14th Pokemon movie, White—Victini and Zekrom and Black—Victini and Reshiram.

Kingdra

Here is a collection of some of the best trainers who use Dragons as their go-to type in the video games.

Lance, who is a member of the Indigo Elite Four and later becomes the Pokemon Champion in Generation 2. He is known for using his trusty Dragonite in battles and is widely considered as one of the strongest trainers who uses the dragon type.

Clair, who is a gym leader from Blackthorn City. She is known for using her trusty Dragonair in battles.

Drake, who is a a member of the Hoenn Elite Four. He uses Salamence as his main Pokemon.

Drayden, who is the Gym Leader of Opelucid City in Pokemon Black. He uses Haxorus as one of his main Pokemon.

Iris, who is the Gym Leader of Opelucid City in Pokemon White. She also later becomes the Unova Champion. She uses Haxorus as one of her main Pokemon.

Here are some random facts and tidbits about the type that we found interesting but couldn’t find another place for:

— The most dragons were introduced in Generation 8 (with 11 new ones). This includes Applin, Flapple, Appletun, Dracozolt, Dracovish, Duraludon, Dreepy, Drakloak, Dragapult, Eternatus, and Regidrago.

— The least number of dragons were introduced in Generation II. There was only one and it was Kingdra.

— Dragon and ghost types are the only ones that are actually weak to themselves.
