Johto is connected to Kanto by The Magnet Train, which allows trainers to easily travel from  Goldenrod City to Saffron City.

All of the names of the cities are either plants or something that is related to plants. This includes New Bark Town, Cherrygrove City, Violet City, etc. Johto is said to be based on the Kansai region in Japan.
