Onix

Onix is a rock/ground combo that was introduced in Generation 1. It evolves into Steelix after trading it while holding a metal coat. In the anime, Onix has played a big role and it also serves as one of the main Pokemon for Brock, Bruno, Drake, Janina, and more.

Aerodactyl

Aerodactyl is a rock/flying combo that was introduced in Generation 1. It is only acquired after being resurrected from an old amber and it also does not evolve from or into anything. It has made plenty of appearances in the anime, and it has been used by Gary Oak and Trevor.

  • Generation 7 and 8 introduced the least amount of rock-types, with 5 new ones each.
  • The first pure rock type that was introduced was Sudowoodo in Generation 2.
  • Jasmine, who is the Leader of the Olivine City Gym, used to use rock-type prior to switching to steel.
